Warning: @govphOfficial is Fake Phil. Government Twitter Account
The REAL Twitter account of the Official Gazette is @govph. This is where the public can get official announcements and bulletins from the government just like during the height of Juaning and Kabayan when classes were suspended by Malacañang. @govph has more than 48,000 followers as of this writing.
“Please RT (retweet): @govphOfficial is a fake account. The Official Gazette only has 1 account, and it’s @govph,” tweeted Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte to warn unsuspecting Twitter users about the bogus account.
The web is awash with posers and Twitter is not spared. The important thing is to know which accounts are fake and which are genuine, especially for accounts posing as official government outlets. Just last week, a fake CHED Twitter account was discovered. Many students were quickly duped because CHED, or the Commission on Higher Education, the governing body for tertiary education in the Philippines, DOES NOT HAVE AN OFFICIAL TWITTER ACCOUNT. In fact, CHED has continually refused to set up a Twitter presence despite the clamor from students and parents, insisting that the same should visit its website instead.
