Tsunami Alert Raised in Cebu, Negros After 6.9 Earthquake

“Philvolcs tsunami alert level is now 2. The concerned public is advised to be on alert for unusual waves,” according to Phivolcs. “People are advised to stay away from the shoreline. People should not go to the coast to watch the tsunami. People whose houses are very near coastal areas in Negros and Cebu islands are strongly advised to be watchful,” the advisory added.

Further, Phivolcs advises all residents in coastal areas, especially those on the eastern side of Negros island and the western side of Cebu to leave the area. The agency also issued a stern warning to people in the area to refrain from going to the coast to watch the arrival of the tsunami.
Meanwhile, several aftershocks have already been recorded. The first recorded aftershock, which had a magnitude of 4.8, occurred 62 kms north of Dumaguete at 12:03 PM The second aftershock, which had a magnitude of 5.6, was recorded at 12:20 PM 71 kms south southeast of Bacolod.
