With this loss, Tiger Woods failed to qualify for the FedEx Cup playoffs, which he has won two of the past four years. This means he will have some more free time in his hands as he is ineligible for any PGA Tour event for the next six weeks. The next tournament in his calendar is the Australian Open in November.
Tiger Woods began the 2011 PGA Championship with a lot of promise. Having rested and recuperated from injury, fans were expecting him to do well his performance at last week’s Bridgestone Invitational notwithstanding. He started the tournament hot but ended with a 7 over par for the first round. The second round was more of the same. After two days in the 2011 PGA Championship, his miscues were shocking – he hit into 22 bunkers. He put four balls in the water. His five double bogeys were the most he ever made in one tournament.
“Obviously frustration, disappointment that I’m not contending in the tournament,” Woods said during the press conference. “Next time.” (VIDEO CREDIT: YouTube/CBSSports)
