Team USA Invites Obama To Women’s World Cup Final on Sunday
It has been a thrilling journey for the US women’s soccer team. Their last trip to the world cup final was in 1999 when they won the title over China. Since then, the best they had done was third place in the past two women’s world cups. But things seemed to fall in place for them at this year’s tournament. After favorites and hosts Germany were vanquished by Japan, the US women could see a light shining for for them this year. But Brazil, the other tournament favorite stood in their way.
We all know how that match ended – a come from the grave victory courtesy of the heroics of Megan Rapinoe and Abby Wambach, and the steady nerves in the penalty shootout. After defeating France in the semis, the American women look poised to take the Women’s World Cup title this year.
The White House has kept mum on the invitation though it doesn’t really divulge the president’s schedule and itinerary for security reasons. Hopefully, President Obama will watch the American’s play live in Germany, to inspire them further into capturing their third Women’s World Cup championship.
