Tag Heuer Drops Tiger Woods: Another Sponsorship Lost

Tiger Woods has just lost another sponsor. Tag Heuer is ending its sponsorship deal with Tiger Woods, this according to Golf World executive editor Ron Sirak: “Tiger’s agent confirms Woods’ Tag Heuer relationship has expired.” This is the sixth sponsor that has dropped Tiger Woods since that fateful 2009 Thanksgiving incident that ignited a series of revelations about the superstar golfer. Aside from Tag Heuer, Gillette, Gatorade, Accenture, AT&T and Golf Digest have also ended their sponsorship of Woods.
But this development should not come as a surprise. As Woods’ private life started to unravel after November 2009, Tag Heuer started to gradually disassociate itself from Woods. Probably because of a standing contract, the Swiss watch maker did not immediately drop the former world number 1. However, Tag Heuer began to distance its elf from Woods, and even started to remove his image in its advertising campaigns.
This development is another blow to the former golf number one who has not won a tournament since 2009. He has also suffered from a few injuries that hampered his comeback to competition. This week, Tiger Woods started playing again, entering the 2011 Bridgestone Invitation. But a after a promising first round, Woods faltered again and is in 36th place going into the final round.
