Thailand posed the biggest threat, so far, to the Filipinos. But Sinag Pilipinas, coached by Norman Black, was unfazed. Though the Thais took a bried lead in the first quarter, the Philippines quickly overhauled the deficit and never looked back. Sinag Pilipinas took control of the game as they got their running game going, with Kiefer Ravena, Greg Slaughter and Nico Salva combining to push Sinag ahead, 22-12.
The game shifted to high gear in the third quarter as the Philippines ran off with the lead, thanks to big man Greg Slaughter.
It was the first loss of the Thais in the 2011 SEA Games basketball competition. The Philippines held Thailand to only 39% shooting, and forced them to commit 21 turnovers. Thailand was unable to stop the Filipinos’ offense, as Sinag made 65% of its field goal attempts.
