New One Peso ‘Jose Rizal’ Coin to be Released This Month
The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas has announced the approval for circulation of a Jose Rizal commemorative one peso (P1) coin. The Jose Rizal one peso coin goes into circulation later this month after being approved as legal tender by the Monetary Board and the Office of the President.
According to the BSP, the new one peso coin is the same in size and weight of the old P1 coin. On the face of the new piso coin is the portrait of Rizal, with the words “150 years,” “Republika ng Pilipinas,” and the years “1861-2011” etched on it. The reverse side carries the new BSP seal, “1-piso,” and “2011.”
