Gaddafi’s burial thus closes the book on his 42-year rule of Libya. It also marks the end of the civil war started eight months ago to remove him from power.
The news of the burial comes as his other son, Saif, is still at large in Libya but reportedly on his way to the Niger border to escape capture. Said was earlier reported captured but it turned out to be false. Saif, said to be Gaddafi’s favorite and heir apparent, fought with his father in Sirte but managed to escape as rebel forces were closing in. Saif will seek refuge in Niger which has earlier announced that all members of the Gaddafi regime seeking refuge will not be turned back to Libya without guarantees for their safety.
