MMDA Suspends Number Coding Dec. 29 1PM
Just like what it did before Christmas, the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has lifted the number coding scheme. The MMDA announced the suspension of the number coding system starting 1 PM today, December 29, 2011, “to facilitate the convenience and mobility of the New Year exodus and returning motorists and commuters from the provinces this holiday season.”
According to its official Twitter page, MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino has ordered the lifting of the number coding scheme – Unified Vehicle Volume Reduction Program (UVVRP) – starting 1 PM today. However, Makati and Las Piñas are excluded in this suspension.
Under the UVVRP, vehicles are banned from major thoroughfares in Metro Manila from 7 AM to 7 PM based on the last number of their registration plates:
1 and 2 (Monday)
3 and 4 (Tuesday)
5 and 6 (Wednesday)
7 and 8 (Thursday)
9 and 0 (Friday)
However, the scheme allows these “banned” vehicles to use the road during window hours from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Makati and Las Piñas do not implement window hours while Pasig implements the window hours from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
