According to Besiktas, It was Kobe Bryant’s manager who got in contact with them after they signed New Jersey Nets point guard Deron Williams. Bryant has been vocal about playing abroad while the NBA is on lockout. He is currently wrapping up an Asian tour sponsored by Nike and will return to the Philippines this weekend to play in an all-star game for local fans.
Kobe Bryant will join Kevin Durant, Derrick Rose (Chicago Bulls), Chris Paul (New Orleans Hornets), Derek Fisher (LA Lakers), James Harden (Oklahoma City Thunder), and Derrick Williams (Minnesota Timberwolves) in the 2-game series against the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) selection and Smart Gilas Pilipinas.
Besiktas was the former team of Allen Iverson. Besiktas signed Iverson, the NBA’s MVP in 2001, last year but his time in Turkey was cut short due to injury.
