This is Kobe Bryant’s third visit to the country. His first was in 2007. His last visit to the Philippines was in 2009, also through Nike, when he met met young basketball players from some Gawad Kalinga communities in Taguig City. Bryant will also visit Gawad Kalinga tomorrow but the first activity of his rather short stop will be a press conference tomorrow at noon. The Gawad Kalinga follows at around 1:30 PM then a visit to the Nike store at The Fort at 3PM.
The highlight of Kobe Bryant’s 2011 Manila visit will be at the Araneta Coliseum at 5PM where players from Nike-sponsored Far Eastern University (FEU) Tamaraws, De La Salle University (DLSU) Green Archers, Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU) Blue Eagles and Smart-Gilas Pilipinas are waiting, along with thousands of basketball fans who scored tickets to the event.
Kobe will watch an exhibition game between Smart Gilas and the UAAP selection followed by a short clinic. According to TJ Manotoc, “He will do what he calls the ‘Blackout Drill’ as you might recall as he done in the past in 2007 and 2009.”
Kobe leaves Manila right after the Araneta Coliseum activity for South Korea.
