Kevin Durant Joins Kobe Bryant vs PBA in Smart Ultimate All Star Weekend

“Bad news! Kevin Durant is replacing DeAndre Jordan in d Smart Ultimate Weekend. Bad news for us & Gilas. Great for Pinoy Bball fans,” posted coach Chot Reyes in his Twitter account. Chot Reyes is in charge of the negotiations for the Smart event and it was he who also confirmed the arrival of the other NBA stars for the Smart Ultimate All Star Weekend. Kevin Durant is the youngest player in history to lead the NBA in scoring and has been the league scoring champion for 2 consecutive seasons. He is also a former Rookie of the Year.
The basketball event will pit the NBA selection with a team from the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) as well as the Smart Gilas Philippine national team. Smart Gilas is currently in the thick of training a preparations for the 2011 FIBA Asia Championships in China. The winner of that regional FIBA tournament will get the LONE automatic slot for Asia in the 2012 London Olympics.
Besides being tuneup of the Smart Gilas team for the 2011 FIBA Asia championships, the Smart Ultimate All Star Weekend is Manny V. Pangilinan’s (MVP) gift to Filipino basketball fans. MVP celebrated his birthday earlier this week. MVP also bankrolls the Smart Gilas Philippine national team.
