“It’s been a special year so far. It’s really a huge honor for me accepting this award,” said Alapag. “But I won’t be receiving this award without my teammates. I’m accepting this in behalf of the Talk ‘N Text team and the coaching staff,” he added.
It’s hist first MVP award since joining the PBA in 2003 as the 10th draft pick of the Tropang Texters in 2003, the same year he won the Rookie of the Year Award. And speaking of Rookie of the Year, Rabeh Al-Hussaini was the runaway winner for the Rookie of the Year 2011. Al-Hussaini finished with 4,256 points besting teammate Nonoy Baclao who had 1,019.
Jimmy Alapag amassed the most points for the most valuable player award. Points from statistics comprise 30 percent of the MVP vote, with media votes accounting for another 30 percent. Ten percent comes from votes from the league’s official broadcast partner, Solar Sports, while five percent comes from the PBA Commissioner’s Office. Alapag, who finished in tenth place after the statistics points, garnered the most votes from the media. Alapag received a total of 1,888 points while Santos finished second with 1,687. Caguioa ended up third in the final voting with 1,317.
