The winner will be determined by a vote among members of the media, past Heisman trophy winners and the public. However, the vote of the public, through ESPN’s fan survey, only counts as one vote. This year, 56 past Heisman winners are eligible to vote. But the bulk of the votes will come from the media – 145 media voters are selected from each of six regions, for a total of 870 media voters.
Each voters is asked to make three selections, no duplicates, ranking them in order. Each first-place selection is awarded three points. Each second-place selection is awarded two points. Each third-place selection is awarded one point. The votes are then tallied and the winner is announced at the Heisman Trophy presentation dinner in New York.
Andrew Lack has been the favorite since the start of the season. It is also his second straight season to qualify. Chances are he’ll be the winner this year.
