The International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued a warrant for the arrest of Saif Gaddafi, as well as his father and and Abdullah al-Senussi, the former intelligence chief, on charges of crimes against humanity. The three are believed to be behind the campaign of murder and torture as Gaddafi tried to suppress the uprising against his regime.
With the way Muammar Gaddafi’s capture was handled, international human rights watchers are calling for restraint. They appeal to the Libyan authorities to let the rule of law prevail. Saif must face his charges in court and not in the hands of trigger-happy Libyans whose aim is to exact revenge.
“Seif must face justice. Whether it’s in Libya or in The Hague, he should face justice. We have to coordinate together with the Libyan authorities,” ICC Prosecutor Luis Moreno Ocampo said.
