Novak Djokovic is the Australian Open 2012 champion after beating Rafel Nadal in an epic match that lasted almost six hours – the longest Grand Slam final ever. Djokovic successfully defended his title against a determined Nadal who wanted to break his losing streak against the Serbian world number 1. The Spaniard has now lost seven straight finals to Djokovic since March. And in losing to Novak in the third straight Grand Slam final, Nadal became the first man in the Open Era to drop three straight major finals.
Novak Djokovic showed the world just how worthy a champion he is. Facing near defeat several times in the match, he clawed back to equalize and win. After losing the fourth set when he had an opportunity to win, many thought Novak would not win over the extremely fit Rafael Nadal who had the luxury of three days rest over Djokjovic’s two. And, when the Serbian was down 4-2 in the firth set, many were already looking forward to Nadal’s victory. But Novak clawed climbed, thanks in part to several crucial errors from Nadal who opened the door for Novak’s comeback.
It was the sweetest victory for Djokovic, and a very well-earned one. (VIDEO CREDIT: YouTube)
