The local boy was the hero of Game 6. David Freese, who was was raised in the Greater St. Louis area and he grew up a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, lifted St. Louis past the Texas Rangers, who were on the verge of their first ever World Series title, with two stunning clutch hits. With the Texas Rangers on the verge of winning in the bottom of the ninth and leading 7-5, David Freese scored with a two-strike, two-out, two-run triple to make it seven all. In Game 7, Freese hit a two-run double in the first inning to tie it 2-all.
David Freese batted .348 in the World Series, with seven RBIs, three doubles and one big homer. He’s the fourth Cardinals player to win the MVP award, joining Hall of Fame pitcher Bob Gibson in 1964 and ’67, catcher Darrell Porter in 1982 and David Eckstein in their 2006 victory over Detroit.
“You learn from all these veterans about how to go about this game and I wouldn’t be here without them,” Freese said. When the final out was made, Freese threw his arms in the air and dashed for the mound, where he joined the rest of the Cardinals celebrating their 11th World Series title.
