Beckham, LA Galaxy Humble Philippine Azkals, 6-1 (VIDEO)
As expected, the LA Galaxy defeated the Philippine Azkals. The LA Galaxy, Major League Soccer Champions of 2011, drubbed the Azkals, 6-1, in their friendly encounter at the Rizal Memorial Stadium earlier tonight. The visitors, headed by football superstar David Beckham, put on a great show for the locals as they displayed quick passing and crisp ball control throughout the match.
Though soundly defeated, it was a great experience for the locals as the Azkals were exposed to a different level of football. The Philippine Azkals should be proud of their feat especially since they are a relatively young team from a nation only recently awakening to football. The visit of the LA Galaxy and David Beckham is likewise a big boost to the sport in the Philippines because of the interest it generated especially among young fans.
The Philippine Azkals actually held their ground in the first half. After David Beckham opened the scoring to loud cheers from locals fans, and teammate Mike MaGee made it 2-0 in the 38th minute, thunderous cheers erupted at the Rizal Memorial Stadium after Phil Younghusband scored for the local team. That was how the first half ended.
But in the second, the LA Galaxy stomped their class, scoring four unanswered goals. (VIDEO CREDIT: YouTube/Studio 23)
