Australian PM Rescued After ‘Ambush’ by Aboriginal Protesters (VIDEO)

Julia Gillard at a restaurant with handing out inaugural National Emergency Medals as the country celebrated Australia Day 2012. Also present at the event was Tony Abbott who had angered activists by sating that protesters’ Aboriginal Tent Embassy on the lawns at Parliament House in Canberra has to move on. Protesters were celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Aboriginal Tent Embassy when word spread that Tony Abbott was nearby prompting activists to rush to the venue of the event.
Upon arriving at the building, some 200 protesters started banging windows and shouting at Abbott. This prompted Julia Gillards security detail to drag her to safety before the protests became more violent.
Cameras captured the scene Prime Minister Gillard, clinging to her bodyguard and surrounded by riot police, stumbled out of the venue. She even lost one of her shoes during the rush but, reportedly, one of her bodyguards found it and took it to her in a waiting car.
Julia Gillard was unharmed, although a bit shaken, by the incident. She later hosted another Australia Day event at her official residence.
