2012 Australian Open Day 8 (Jan. 23) Results: Mixed Fortunes
Mixed fortunes for some of the top-seeded players at the Australian Open 2012 today, Day 8. There were winners and losers as the 2012 Australian Open headed for the quarterfinal round. First, the winners: Novak Djokovic beat Lleyton Hewitt in four, Andy Murray advanced, Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova continued her run, David Ferrer beat Richard Gasquet, and Maria Sharapova defeated Sabine Lisicki in three sets.
Now for the losers: five-time champion Serena Williams was upset by Ekaterina Makarova and Jo Wilfred Tsonga was stunned by Japan’s Kei Nishikori. Other reults posted below.
